I have my eye on one. Broker has been reducing price over past five months. I know only 19 were built in early '80's. I have sought info at westerly-owners. Does anyone here have any info?

I have little personal experience of these but, compared to her smaller sisters, they are more of a cruiser racer than a racer. Higher superstructure meant more room below but she was still a bit spartan, even by the standards of the early eighties. She sails well, though - fast and well balanced. Two were built with all-Kevlar hulls which should be bullet proof (ha-ha).

What is the broker asking? You shouldn't have to pay much more than £25,000 for one these days.

Thanks guys, I am off next week to have a look at the boat and a sail with a good surveyor in tow. Trying to use the Irish bush telegraph to learn why it hasn't sold.

It has a very good IRC rating, but I want to use it more for cruising than racing.

I know the first two of 19 were kevlar/grp. the rest were common grp. One of the the first two was Joggernaut, now Irakai, in Ireland, but which was the second?

Thanks again

Hi I’m trying to trace my dad’s boat that he had to sell in the 1990s. It was registered in 1981 I think in Southampton and was a Westerly Fulmar designed by Ed Dubois. It was built in Waterlooville. She was called Gully-Gully. Does anyone know how I would be able to trace her and if her name has been changed would that make it impossible? Would love to find her again.

You might be better off with the Westerly Owners Association 2845 WOA members worldwide rather than this thread... There are quite a few more Fulmars around than the GK34s discussed in these quite old postings so unfortunately it may be tricky to track down Gully-Gully.

There is no boat in the WOA list of members boats named Gully-Gully. If you can supply the sail number, I can check the list using this. The number will start FR and probably in the 50 to 150 range as it is a 1981 Fulmar. My Fulmar is FR38 and was launched in Sept 1980.

Gully Gully was at Portchester Sailing Club for several years. I don't think it's still there but I'll ask around next time I'm at the club.
You could try writing to the secretary asking for any information.

Yes we were at Portchester Sailing Club. We then chartered Gully Gully to Mark Brackenbury who wrote a book about navigating northern France and the boat appeared in the book. I’ve trawled all the photo albums and unfortunately no pictures with the sail number. So kind of you to post. Gully Gully meant so much to my dad. We sailed every weekend in the 80s and 90s in the Solent and he was heartbroken to have to sell her.
