my mooring is at right angles to the flow of a tidal river. it's a waste of time to try to reverse my centaur out against the flow so you just have to roll with it and either reverse downstream on an ebbing tide until there's room to power forward and around, or you push it out slowly and let the flowing tide drag her stern upstream leaving you pointing in the right direction.
sounds straight forward enough but it usually needs assistance from the boat hook and a lot of unhelpful shouting from the kind captain at his inevitably incompetent crew. it really does set the tone for the day.
even the fast fishers make a hash of fighting the flow.
