Morning all,

I would appreciate some advice re the type of propeller for a Centaur 2 or 3 blade and size.

As always very many thanks for all replies.

The size of the prop depends on the engine and gearbox combination, rather than the boat. Put your boat details into the Propcalc programme on www.castlemarine.co.uk to give a good guide. If you are buying new, provide the details of your boat to the supplier and take their recommendation.

+1 or ask Lancing Marine.

A 3-blade will cause more drag when sailing, but get the engine's power into the water more effectively. I recently refitted my Centaur with a Beta 14hp (that later proved to be a 10hp!!) and fitted a three bladed prop as I considered that I needed to use as much of the available power as possible. Luckily!

A 2-bladed prop would sail better, especially if you brake it when vertical. Provided it is big enough to absorb the available power it'll motor fine...

A 3-blade may be smoother running (less vibration as it passes the keelson) and can generally absorb more power for a given diameter.
