We\'re off to Portugal. Any Info??

The good lady deserves a break after rescent events, so we are heading to the Golfo de Cadiz.
Hi, Does anyone have info on places/marinas to visit in the Algarve??

We are staying at Tavira, near Faro for 10days. We have a car for the full duration and are hoping to visit some descent marinas. We know Vilamoura is just up the coast a wee bit, and will nodoudt frequent it on a few occasions /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The very nice Trazie on here, has given me lots of info on the area which we shall be following up on. But can anyone else add to it, or recommend anywhere to see visit, and good places to eat and Drink??

So while i'm away, play nice and no fighting!!!

Oh, and enjoy work!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

If you are based in Tavira you are about 40 mins away from Vilamoura marina which is a must if your'e into boating. Not only is it full of big boats it has alot of bars and restaraunts to choose from, even an Irish pub for a welcome pint of guinness. Albufeirra the next one down has only been open a short time and nothing much is happening around there, however if you go into the town it is a typical tourist destination full of bars and eateries, however at night it aims more for the club 18-30 brigade. In between Albufeirra and Lagoa, away from the marinas, is a park called Zoo Marine here they have sealions dolphins an aquarium and other attractions and is one of the better places to visit. Further down the coast is Lagos which has a nice marina and adjoining town with your typical Portuguese shops and nice scenery.
For your wifes sake and a complete change drive away from Portugal and go into Seville, about 2 hours from Tavira. It is an easy journey and on your arrival has beautifull architecture lots of shops and filled with tappers bars. Finally on the Spanish/Portuguese border is a town called Villa Real de San Antonio which also has a marina (not much going on) from here you can follow by car in a northerly direction the Guadiana river which is a nice drive and goes through a few rural towns and villages. Fish here is out the sea and on the plate very tasty and a must. Finally if you like golf, the courses are fantastic, take a day out and have a game.
I hope you enjoy your holiday.

Have driven around that area of the river border and very pretty countryside it is to with some spectacular river valley views .Appear to be very few bridges over the river to link the two countries apparently due to a bit of "previous" twixt Portugal and Spain. Some very posh roads and one very posh new bridge further inland all built with EU dosh.A few fine new roads appear to start and finish in the middle of nowhere in particular. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
For a really really really long drive Cadiz (old town) is worth a look if you like old towns.
