So the crew of Petrolia (Moboters) decided to go for a sailing holiday in the Seychelles.
Not many actual saily sailing pictures as I'm not that good a sailor and was always too busy !!
My daughter has never been impressed by my sailing. Especially when it's windy !!
Her favourite saying this holiday was, "Step away from the sail" !!! (American Cop style)
This is the mini marina near to the capital of Mahe, Victoria.
Another one of the base.
This is the Cat we chartered.
We spent the first full day getting familiar with and provisioning the boat.
Provisioning was a right pain as there is no store at the base. You have to get taxis to & from town.
Main problem being the weight of all the liquid refreshments needed !
This was our Dingy test.
After deciding we were happy with the boat and had enough beer onboard we set off around the north of the main island
to what is supposed to be one of the most popular beach / bays, Beau Vallon.
This is a restaurant on Beau Vallon beach.
This is the view from one of our heads while anchored in Beau Vallon. How many toilets have a view like this ? (Despite the clouds)
That night we went ashore to eat at the restaurant above. We had a good meal and a few beers before heading back to the Cat in our dinghy.
With the beer inside us we did a great 'Navy Seals' launch, literally running down the beach with the dinghy. (We had chained it to a tree)
In high spirits we arrived back at the Cat to find the door broken open. We had been robbed. Wet footprints everywhere and every cabin ransacked !
We lost loads of cash, cameras, mobile phones, Ipods, credit cards, the lot. Well I exaggerate, they left us (or missed) our passports, 1 camera and 1 credit card.
This is the view from what I now call 'Robbers Beach'.
We rushed back to the beach restaurant on nervous energy. Ever been robbed you'll know what I mean.
We reported the robbery to the police and luckily the restaurant owners allowed me to call my parents at home.
Over the next couple of hours my Mother was able to cancel all the credit cards & mobile phone contracts.
The police came to the boat the next morning to take finger prints. Bit late after we had been on the boat all night !!
So next day after finishing all the police matters we headed back to the boat base to lick our wounds.
In the Seychelles they seem to rely on mobiles instead of Ch16 for help. We had no mobiles left and very little money, only what was in my pocket.
Luckily the guy that rented us the boat came through with a 2nd hand mobile & enough Euros to see us through.
The Seychelles have a mickey mouse currency with a pegged rate and you get nearly twice the Rupees on the black market as from the bank.
Hence the Euros and the reason we had so much money on the boat !
It seems that the Seychelles are/were fairly safe, and this is what we were told but apparently ransacking charter boats has started this year.
We were the 3rd boat robbed in as many weeks !
We hung around the base over the weekend, just sailing away on short trips around St Anne’s Marine Park and returning at night.
Somehow our confidence had taken a knock. Also while at the base I had got chatting with a charter fishing man & booked a 1/2 day fishing.
(On only remaining credit card)
This is us trolling
This is My Daughters Fiancé having a fight. (With a fish)
And this is his prize. The sail on this fish was the most amazing iridescent blue colours I have ever seen !
Unfortunately this beautiful fish had fought his last fight. I would have liked to see him released but apparently they don't seem to do
catch & release. The charter skippers share out and barbeque the meat.
Swimbo in fight with little bonito.
I took this picture on the way back from fishing. I think it's one of the most pictured islands in the Seychelles. Pile of rocks with handfull of palms.
The shock and anger at the robbery were slowly subsiding after the weekend around the base so it was time to get on with the rest of the holiday.
Nothing much else exciting happened, luckily. I suppose the rest was as it was supposed to be, just having fun.
I post some more pictures but not too much rambling.
Ready for action !!
View to Cirf Island (Marine Park close to Mahe) while on a refresher sail. (As said above, I'm not a very good sailor truth be known)
Some rocks we missed !
I think this was 'Bird Island' although there were few birds.
Apparently after El Nino killed the coral the fish stocks diminished & so did the birds.
Crossing Beau Vallon bay
A lovely place called 'Port Laurney'. Wrong spelling I think.
Much quieter than Beau Vallon.
Playing at Port Laurney.
Beers at Port Laurney !
Relaxing at Port Laurney
In Port Laurney, for the first time since the robbery we left the boat for an evening meal.
This is the sign we left in the window every time from then on.
I fully expected to come back to a sign, "Didn't believe you. Bin robbed again" !!
Although Seychelles is outside the 'cyclone belt' and rarely has storms it does rain a lot at this time of year.

Daughter Jenna not in 'Rain Wear'.
Sailing in a squall.
Adam with Silhouette Island behind
Hat strap
Demonstation by Bouy boy
Sick outboard
I think this was called 'Jasmine Cove'.
Another lovely beach
How do we get back to base ?
Mahe & part of St Anne’s Park.
Rope a Swimbo. If she fell off & got swept away it would have been my fault. Don't worry we were at anchor !
'Stormvogel' from Portsmouth. A beauty.
We saw her when we got back to base to finish the holiday.
They had sailed from Indonesia with only one stop en-route. ( the Chakas Islands ? )
Took them only 14 days at sea. Proper sailors. Not like me !
After 11 days on the boat and getting robbed we felt we deserved a treat for our last night.
Paid for with Daughters Fiancé credit card the robber missed.
Oh what luxury after the Catamaran heads ! Proper showers !!
This was the view from our balcony !
This was the infinity pool.
Sea colour at base
And this is the family.
This was only the forth sailing holiday we've had. As usual it was as much adventure as holiday !!
Maybe I'll stick to cruising in Petrolia. She has better locks !!
