Well, I\'m back from a few weeks on the seas

Since then I've sailed from Heybridge to the Clyde clockwise and had a whole series of adventures/misadventures - some funny and nothing stupid. The weather was mainly awful and the winds were mainly adverse. The only positive thing that happened was that I quit smoking and at each landfall managed to trot up hills without feeling that previous tighness in chest.

With over 50 years on the seas I believe that I can offer to share what experiences I have with you. Some may not believe this but it is an open offer. I know that previously on this board that I have pricked a few raw nerves - but that is both life and sailing. To those of you who I have offended, you can always email me and tell me my shortcomings or even post them on this board. To those of you who don't know me then rest assured that although my advices may not always fit the bill, those advices are from experience gained that is willing to be shared.

Yes, I extract the Michael when it is deserved and many don't understand either what I am saying or am trying to say ... but all my posts are genuine even in between the words.

I'm NigeCh and I'm not going to go away. If you don't like what I say then, with respect, please email me and say what you don't like about what I say.

I sail the seas and the seas take no hostages. Sofar I've always managed to come back. I may have good or bad advice - It's up to you to decide how to interpret it.

Welcome back Nigel, sorry but hadn't noticed you'd gone! You would have to try hard to upset many people with only 57 posts so think of your return as a mere continuum. Unlike Big Brother we weren't bitching about you behind your back :))

Are you going to enlighten us with a website of your experiences or a long story posted on this site?

Nigel welcome back to the mundane world of office lunchtime sailing. Well done re the smoking - all that money for more new sails. I'm sure your philosophies will be entertaining, I'll try to concentrate!

Welcome Back

Sounds as though you have had some sort of cathartic experience as well, or are you just mellowing in your old age. Or has the recent experience of battling the high seas has given you a precious new perspective on life?

Both ...

and thanks. It wasn't the seas but it was a set of experiences that made me think on who and what I am ... On the passage to Arran I took a sailor of 4 years experience where I had to keep on re-explaining to him that the wind blew in this direction on the sails and that the tiller had to be directed in that direction to make the boat go forwards ... and again ... and again .. and again ... It was only a short 2 day passage and when we finally arrived I was totally shattered (and more) - I'm just an ordinary sailor who sails for pleasure when I can take the the time out to sail then I like to sail, but that short passage was more harrowing than any other that I've ever done. Looking after another person contiinually in F7/8 is not safe. Be warned.

Comprehension

From now on I'll try to make my posts worthy of this board - I'll make them understandable just as orders are given at sea.

The dreaded fag smoke ...

I'm over it ... It's done and dusted ... and yes I now don't mind anyone smoking .. all I do is count the cost of the cigarettes and smile.

In the beginning ...

was me ... and my posts were un-understandable as they were for 4 years ever since the beginning. The time has come (....) to stand up and be counted and to post posts that everyone can understand ... and that's what I must do.

Nope ... I posted a very silly post

under the affluance of incohol .... and it's a wonder that Kim didn't delete it. The post brought me via posts posted here and via emails the just desserts that I deserved. My original post in this thread is an apology to all those people who I upset and equally to everyone who I had previously uspset..

The sun was shining on the sea

Shining with all his might;
He did his best to make
the billows smoothand bright -
And this was odd, because it was
The middle of the night ....

So tell us Mr Ch...

...what you think of the surprise of coming back to your online home (well flatshare anyway) and finding the furniture rearranged in latest-first order?

(I know its a boring question, but it may suit your new nicotine-free, laid-back, relaxez-vous image)

Late May/Early June

We left Port Dinorwic on 28 May and cruised around Arran and on the way back popped into The Isle of Man to watch the Production and Senior TT races. The weather was not very nice to start with - gales and really lumpy seas, but sort of improved ie more sun around Arran ... but then the wind completley died on the 8th June. Once the gales stopped we had some superb sailing - It's a delightful area. We tried to get upto the Kyles of Bute but the wind gods decreed no wind, not even a whisper, for 2 days! We got back on 9th June.

How about you? I knew that you were going to Scotland but thought that you were going to Oban?

At first I found it confusing ....

but it does help to keep threads alive. All in all, I think that it's a good improvement because sometimes some really good threads that were developing nicely would drop off the board and that was the end of that.

BTW, I reckon that it was fag smoke that made me grumpy! It took 3 goes to stop. Can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke now - I've even put a no-smoking sticker on Birgitta which has upset those smokers who want to crew but find themselves unable to stop! - Using patches was the answer. It was a kind of double edged sword: I was allergic to the patches and desperately wanted to quit smoking .... so the patches were used till I itched all over and then that was it. My wife is happy because my clothes no longer smell! And I'm happy to because of the extra money in my pocket. Blood pressure is down and I no longer get pains in my chest when I run up mountains. And that was the object of getting the boat - So that I could sail to the mountains. Next year, I hope to sail to Loch Scavaig (Cuillins) and into Loch Hourn (Knoydart)

Re: Comprehension

Nah, post them as you think them. Then the board can be worthy of the posts...

Good advice, bad advice.

"I may have good or bad advice - It's up to you to decide how to interpret it."

Which is this then Nige, good advice or bad advice?
