Hi,

Has anyone seen the 2018 issue of Welcome Anchorages?

It's normally issued around the turn of the year in time for the boat shows, I've check the website and it doesn't appear to have been updated since 2016.

Anyone know what the state of play is?

Hey Ian

I definitely had the 2017 issue - IIRC it came with a magazine. I think it was the Yachting Life... Not yet seen it this year...

Was certainly available in 2017.
Just as an aside it does not deal with anchorages but marinas, pontoons and visitor's moorings. I took issue with the publishers that in fact the introduction of said marinas, pontoons and visitor's moorings have taken away many of the more popular and safe anchorages on the west coast. Reply from the publisher was basically modern 'yachtsmen' don't want to get their feet wet.
Hey. That's progress.

+1.

To be fair the Crown Estate (or whatever is the Scottish equivalent) is very mindful of this and makes sure anchoring areas are still provided. I mentioned this to them when the moorings in Canna were suggested, the moorings were positioned round the edge leaving the centre pool for anchoring (not that anyone can ever get their anchor to hold in Canna...). The West Highland Moorings and Anchoring Association (www.whamassoc.org.uk) is keeping an eye on all new applications for moorings/pontoons to make sure that anchoring space is not unduly compromised.

The 2018 edition was available at the London Boat Show.

I think the first normal supplies are when it gets sold with the Yachting Life magazine, as people have said, some time around now.

At the moment, the web site only has the 2017 edition.

The website normally gets updated around the time they issue it to Marinas and chandlers.

Some bits need updating. e.g. It says you can use the West pontoon in Rothesay harbour, even though that bit has been closed for years.

It has always suffered from a degree of questionable reliability. The publishers depend on receiving entries and corrections from the listed locations, they do not go out and check them, so if an entry is wrong it is up to the local body who sponsored it to provide the update, if it is not done it it is their fault.
If anyone needs one badly I have a spare 2017 edition, I suspect the 2018 will not be very different.
