I went for a sail up the hamble and spotted this yacht

is that a good shape?

the rest of the trip is here

Looks like the whole boat has been put inside a giant boat shaped cup with its own rudder. Strange perspective on the boom as well, looks like it extends way off the back of the boat...

Clearly a well-kept example of the Goldberg and Robinson designed Funnel OD. Great boats for sailing in circles, with a legendary reputation in tornadoes!
seriously, have you got another perspective for us?

We've heard of the ' wine glass ' shaped hull of the 1960's; that boat is the ' straight pint glass ' shape !

It seems there's a sort of cladding ridge about waterline level, maybe a decent boat shape hidden underneath for some reason ?

I wonder how effective the rudder is ?

Maybe it's a sort of 007 job; get a handicap as the slowest thing on the planet, then for the big prize race pull a hidden red lever and all the outer bottom falls away, revealing a mean high aspect ratio fin keel ?

Blimey, I had no idea it would be so hard to find an expert

I thought some-one would pop up on here, take the pipe out of his mouth, and tell us we are all fools and any sailor worth his salt can see that it is a Whitby Bolliker or a Tenby Tickler or some such

the only boat I have ever seen with a similar shape was designed to get frozen in and it would slowly rise up as the ice pressed in firmer and firmer

the owner said it was the most uncomortable boat in a seaway he had ever owned and it was now for sale

You shoot some great films Dylan, thanks for sharing them.

Bless you....

it is hard to know sometimes what people like

It does seem to me that there are quite a few blokes who want to see films of drifting up a river looking at the sort of stuff they would look at if they were drifting up the river with you.

sadly..... not much in here for mobo owners. I definately have an aorder of preference. Wooden yacht first, wooden mobo second, plastic yacht with canoe stern third, plastic yacht (wedge or lozenge) and then onto the big planing mobos only if there is nothing else to film.

New camer and new mike on order so hopefully the sound will be even better this coming year - the salt kills them all eventually.
