WEEKEND FLYING FORECAST
Issued: 1000 Friday 30th September 2005

SATURDAY
An autumnal feel to the weather for Saturday. A complex area of low pressure to the north of Shetland will be bringing brisk northwest to northerly winds through most of the British Isles and Ireland. High pressure is building to the west of Ireland, and this will be trying to edge eastwards through the day, squeezing the wind and increasing it further.
For most of England and Wales the morning should start fairly bright and breezy. There will be scattered showers around, but during the course of the morning these become heavier and more persistent. The showers may merge into longer periods of rain in the afternoon, with the Midlands, northern England and Wales most at risk.
For Scotland and Ireland the weather will be unsettled throughout. It is going to be windy here, with those winds reaching gale force at times. Showers are going to be frequent and heavy, again merging to longer spells of rain. A risk of hail and thunder. Later in the day showers should become less frequent over western Ireland.
Winds will be from the WNW 12-18kt (F4-F5) over the south, but increasing through the day. Mainly NW 25-35kt (F6-F8) over Scotland and parts of Ireland.

SUNDAY
On Sunday a ridge of high pressure builds through Ireland and the UK. However, this is going to be tempered by a warm front passing eastwards and lying through Scotland, Northern Ireland and later Wales.
For most of England and Wales the day should start fine and dry. There will be cloud floating around, and a risk of a few showers still affecting East Anglia and Kent. During the afternoon cloud increases through northern England, bringing cloud and drizzly outbreaks of rain, especially to the northwest.
Scotland and Ireland will have a cloudy and drizzly start to the day. Low cloud on the hills and very little change is expected for the afternoon. Eastern areas always fairing better.
Winds will be from the NW through England and Wales 12-16kt (F4) but a W 14-18kt (F4-F5) over Scotland.
