Weekend Weather Forecast

One of the most blatant pieces of BAD MODERATION i have seen for a while. Of course I love the fact that IPC claim that paid advertisers have no impact on what goes into their publications.

This would seem the perfect opportunity for them to prove it. Do they allow free weather forecasts or will they force us to use a subscription service.

Lets give IPC a chance to back out of this one - it's never easy to publicly over rule a member of staff but I think this is one of those occasions when they need to but we need to give them time to decide how best to do it without completely undermining one of there moderators. Personally I'd go for the "member of staff has now been counselled" and "after feedback from our valuable customers" approach as they seem nice safe bets.

Simon - keep up the good work. Probably the best part of the forum. (well a close 2nd to our scottish bretherens "witty" banter anyway /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

I look forward to most of Simons posts ... although sometimes I curse him when he forecasts the bad weather (no wind on a race day for one!) ... very handy FREE service that has been in operation for a long time. There has been many a weekend where Simons forecasts were spot on whilst the BBC and Met office were so far off the mark they must have been forecasting for a different continent ...

If IPC wanted to ban his format they should have done so a long time ago when it first started. I just hope they now see sense to leave things as they are.

This is personal, and I will not divulge the details.

[/ QUOTE ] Never mind, we can guess. Anyone with such a fragrant bio and a floating penis extension that big is bound to have problems.

Seriously though, if he has a shred of decency he will have already apologised to Simon by PM and been in touch with Louise to add his voice to the rest of us who think she overreacted.

(Where is Keith anyway???)

A public statement from Piers might also go some way to clearing the air . . .

Simon, Please stay. The forum will be a worse place if you stop posting your forecasts. Thank you for all you have done so far.
As for the self appointed forum police enough said!!

IPC please review all that has been posted in this thread, you may want to modify the rules,I am sure there are ways around this 'problem' if you want.

[/ QUOTE ] Why not sign Simon up instead of Theyr? So much free, then pay for more - what exactly is the difference?

Except that Simon gives a lot more for free . . .

Big chance for IPC to regain loads of brownie points here. Ditch Theyr and sign Simon up officially.

It's just that the forum rules
http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/639460/an/0/page/0#639460
are quite clear on what's allowed as far as links are concerned, and if we make an exception, we set a precedent, and the next stop is anarchy!

I'm sure you understand.

Louise

You will see that Simon registered some time before you did and has been submitting his forecasts with no objections from any other moderators (or registered users) in all that time - perhaps you should give this some more thought.

Blimey! Pop off down the sailing club for the annual Sprat Supper and a few bevvies then come home to find all this lot !!

I'll just add my tupenny worth for Simon - I hope Louise has as much strength to publicly apologise as she had to critiscise the post in the first place.

After the initial concerns mentioned by Brendan, Simon has posted these forecasts for years now, so for there suddenly to be a problem based on one complaint is just nonsense.

Personally i think that Simon does a great job on here and if he is stopped the forum will loose a valuable assett.

I tend to disagree that Louise needs to apologise at all. The post of simons did break the advertising rules and she merely pointed this out after a complaint was made.

As far as I know thats all that has occured,I think in the morning or on monday a compromise will be reached and the mountain will revert to molehill proportions.

Back when Kim gave permission, Simon did start putting rather commercial bits in his weekly forecasts now and then, and Kim asked him to desist and keep the overt commercialism out of his posts. No outcry then, and Simon complied. This happened several times from memory.

Can't see this is anything much different

I don't see the point in getting unpleasant but I will add my support to Simon . I get his free forecasts by e.mail and it's very useful to me and family
On the subject of advertising and links
This had to happen again because the last time the subject was debated , and ruled on , was in Mobo . Kieth then ruled about the subject at the end of the debate but never got around to re-writing the rules to show his ruling
That has caused a certain ammount of friction in the past so may I respectfully suggest that you locate that thread , read the ruling and re-write the appropriate rule
If the rule had been changed in the first place , this would never have happened , and you wouldn't be running the risk of losing loads of valuable contributions from people on here
One very valued member has already walked and others will also go , then what kind of a forum would you have
Just my thoughts , over to you

Keith moved to become web editor of Nuts and Loaded magazines about 6 months ago, which is when Dan Foley took over here.
