weekend not looking good

We cancelled our launch, good Friday because of high winds and rebooked to launch this Friday, however as we know how unpredictable any Bank Holiday weather is we took a chance and relaunched a couple of weekends ago, looks like we did the right thing.

Been watching the weather all this week so far (laid up with sprained ankle), have to admit that East Anglia and the South East have a much better time of it than the rest of the country.
Iv'e often wondered why when down in the West country, over the past couple of seasons it's been a wash out and many Solent and South East owners report of very little or no change to their season due to weather, would be interested to know if it's just my perspective or is there some truth to it?

We will make the most of what we get anyway, just glad to be afloat again.

Typical UK Bank Hols coming, rain windy...

I can understand the frustration of sports boat enthusiasts, lovely for a day trip to the beach on a sunny day but not much fun for a weekend in the UK.
If you want to enjoy boating in the uk you really need to invest in a Flybridge, I accept you loose a certain amount of sports boat feel but if you miss it that much you can always replicate the sensation by standing up at the helm while you wife and kids chuck buckets of sea water in your face :D

;)ducks for cover .........

Why is it every other post of late seems to dissolve into a my boat's better than yours match? Even if most are farily good natured.

Lets face, everyone thinks their particular style of boat is the best/most suitable/most comfortable/most practical/most like a P35 etc etc because they chose it and bought, so they are going to think that way - unless they are completely bonkers of course...

'oh well yes, I actually really liked the open sports boat but I decided to buy a river cruiser so I could spend the next 10 years being miserable....'

Anyway, the reason we are getting ****e weather this weekend is my fault. Unusually, I decided to plan something nicely in advance and was/am (not sure now) planning on taking a few friends out on the rib with some toys and having a jolly good time with a few beers and some lunch.

And now its going to rain.

I suppose you could argue that since we were all going to get in the sea nad therefor wet anyway does it really matter? Well, I suppose not, but there is a bit of a difference being chucked into the freezing cold solent from a partially inflated flying ringo being towed by a rib at full chat when the sun is balzing and there is the chance of naturally drying off then there is by being chucked form the same ringo, being towed by the same rib in the same feeezing Solent only to find when you get out of the drink its pissing it down with rain, blowing like old boots and some b'stard has drained the thermos of the last of the coffee.

Maybe I should have bought a FB and then I could go out round the solent admiring the view. But then on the other hand, they really are ****e at trying to tow toys at 30mph :)

So its all your fault, I suspected as much :mad:

Have you tried ;);)

Typical indeed, but for the Solent it doesn't look too rainy or too windy to go out, albeit much cooler than of late, though Sunday looks a bit rubbish. At the moment our plans for a trip to Lymington remain in place - SWMBO insists that a bit of rain and wind will mean the shops will be quieter...... hmmmmm. However as it's a B/Hol w/end no doubt the weather will turn out worse than the current forecasts and make for a miserable time out.

Daka - FB? - no thanks I'll stick to the HT without the rock and roll thank you :D:D:p

Leaving the canopies up on a sport cruiser is much the same (if a little noisy) as helming from inside on a flybridge boat, I guess the fact that it's raining has little to do with the boat, just the reluctance of the owner to use it.
I'm afraid I would rather be alongside than pushing through miserable conditions, the spirit of a sport cruiser for me is the same as owning a convertible car, wind in the hair (what's left) and the warmth of the sun on your back.
Flybridge owners add to that, cruising to distant places.

I would imagine most sport cruiser owners but I may be wrong would rather do a spot of dayboating, sheltered anchoring and socialising rather than long passage making, whereas flybridge owners look at extended cruising as their main activity with occasional anchoring second, both boats equally capable of both but more suited for their intended purpose, therefore another weekend trapped in a sport cruiser, not at anchor and without sun and fresh air is frustrating for the sport cruiser owner, not so much for the flybridge owner who enjoys cruising and can still go with their plans.
Secondly many sport cruisers are smaller than any flybridge boat (never seen a 24ft flybridge) and are effected more by the weather than anything else.

I might be wrong, but who cares!, come rain or shine I will be on our boat.

There is an aging 25ft flybridge Bayliner in our marina. Not my cup of tea but someone loves her!!!!

Whats all this moaning about rain anyway? Keep the hoods up and you stay dry.

Jeeees, what is the matter with you people! you are always moaning about the weather. Latest forecast I got was for 25c and 3/4 Northerlies. What the hell is wrong with that? For Christ sake its onl April after all.
Ok its a bit cool for swimming yet, but still not bad.
Ooops wrong forum, getting coat now:)

It's not the rain, more usually the wind that that keeps us tied up, I can handle rain.

Early season starts OK usually, summer (don't laugh) has been dreadful for the last couple of seasons at least.
It's a real sense of frustration when you have made all the plans for cruises during those long winter nights, not to be able to bring those plans to fruition on your minuscule time off work.
Coupled with the agonising reality that without a boat we could once again have multiple trips to far away places abroad instead of a wet weekend in Devon (got to feel sorry for the other half in this respect because every chance we get were down on the boat).

If it wasn't for the odd day of glorious sunshine and flat calm seas that make up for the other 90% then it wouldn't be worth it but we all know for the 10% when everything is right there's nothing like it anywhere in the world.

Shame about the forecast for the week-end. I may cancel my plan to potter about and stay ashore instead to earn brownie points to cash in later on ;)

Hopefully the weather improves again for the end of the coming week as we are intending to cross the channel to Alderney for a 4 day boys away days from Thursday :D

not quite true Ive got a T Top and thats fine, Ive been out for the past 3 weekends in a row, Brighton, Hasler, Cowes done 15 hours in the past month 30 this year so far, getting the most out of the boat is the key, but in a smooth sea.

I dont mind the rain, leave the covers on, dont mind the cold, turn the heating on. but strong winds 20 mph going through the Looe Channel is no fun, also it means I have to drive thats what the AP is for.

Ah, but it'll be better next week...probably

FWIW I can virtually guarantee that there'll be a ridge of high pressure rolling in on the 4th, bringing hot, calm days which will last until the 21st, whilst we're on the hard for a few bits and pieces.:D

Can you make that last until the end of the first week in June?

Oh well, now you've broken the ice :D

Sunday is looking bleeding marvelous.

2-3's 24*

I'm getting supplies in for Sunday...Will take the Sunday papers and have a relaxing day cooking fry ups, drinking a nice pot of coffee, reading the papers and soaking up the sun...I did think about getting a bit of bait in for fishing but I need to keep me eye on the little one now she's standing and trying to walk about...could be interesting trying to stop her from pulling things that shouldn't be pulled.

....I mentioned it to Kwakas and he told me something in Greek/Welsh which I'm sure meant....

...."Oh that sounds smashing"...or something like that :D
