Webasto exchaust - where is the best place?

.
The 'tubular bandage' lagging doesn't look that impressive - is there thicker stuff I could fit that will guarantee no hot surfaces? Space is tight in our lockers.

Re. exiting through the side . . . I was wondering if, with suitable insulation, I could put the outlet in the Vega cockpit coaming. Time to contact the Vega association methinks . . .

It may not look much but you would be surprised how effective it is.

That silencer is for an Evo model. Mine is a Webasto Airtop 2000 ST.

It comes with a marine fitting kit and the relevant documents saying it is a marine kit, but has no silencer. There is just 2m of flexible exhaust and some kind of sock insulation. (See pic below).

Maybe it is not normal to fit one with this model?

Alternatively, I found this on Ebay from Turkey which looks as though it might be a worthwhile purchase at £30?

Odd, marine kits come with a 22mm to 24mm exhaust adaptor and use the same 24mm sealed silencer with welded exhaust as the EVOs along with the straight in skin fitting as opposed to the old ones where you have to cut the hole at an angle. Is that a UK sourced kit?

rule of thumb is raggies at transon if possible moboes at the side as there is less chance of water gettinto the exhaust,

Be careful with a silencer, ones with drain holes are for land based use ONLY (Car,lorries ect) and must be fitted outside in fresh air situation. Marine use inside as they have no hole.

The kit was purchased for me by someone. I assume it was UK sourced as the Documents envelope is obviously UK.

The skin fitting is angled.

Would the silencer pictured above be OK?

Something is definately not right here, the 22mm angled skin fitting adds even more to my suspicion, does it at least have Webasto engraved on the outside flange?
As it would cost about £250 - £300 to upgrade to the current spec exhaust, silencer and skin fitting I suppose you have no option to use other than a non standard silencer, just be sure you seal it to the exhaust tubing with quality clamps and exhaust assembly paste to get a good gas tight joint.

Our Eber exhaust come out of the cockpit coaming. We don't have any choice really on a centre cockpit boat.

I have seen fenders with burnt holes in them from Eber/Webasto etc exhausts.

The exhaust pipe in the locker gets very hot but not so hot as to melt any mooring lines etc that are resting against it.

Webasto AT5000 skin fitting on hull

That's a non standard option, but at least it's a Webasto part, quite good for keeping drips ps off the nicely polished hull, this is the skin fitting in all AT kits now, still angles up for a loop but without having to drill at a funny angle,

David,

Turns out I was havering. It's a 24mm non-angled skin fitting with 24mm exhaust and an adapter to fit it at the heater end. Genuine marine kit, just without a silencer - apparently they don't usually bother with the ST2000

I've ordered one of the 24mm sealed type exhausts from Turkety and will make sure it is carefully fitted.

Thanks very much for all your help - have a virtual pint on me and a real one if we ever meet up.
