Weather update

Plenty of snow down here in Hernia Bay - 5-6" (we don't do metric, sorry). Lived here all me life and cannot recall a daytime dump of snow like that ever before. Just dug the car out and am going to have a shot at getting to the Hollowshore club (near Faversham) for Christmas drinkies.
Is your journey absolutely necessary, I hear some say?
Yes, it is.

We should have been going to our YC for Xmas lunch today, but sadly it has been cancelled. :(

Never mind, we are going to have lunch down at the Butt & Oyster instead. :D Just a couple of hundred yards down the lane.

I cleared another 4 inches off the path this afternoon, its getting to the point where there is nowhere to put the show you are clearing.
I also cleared 10 inches of accumulated snow off the car, but then couldn't open the doors because they were covered with the snow from the roof. Doh!

I ventured down to Suffolk Yacht Harbour today. Most of the western basin is frozen, I didn't try walking on it so I am not able report on how thick it is

The boat is out of the water now, so we can expect glorious sailing conditions for the rest of the winter :)

FWIW Peter had you actually got here, you could well have been stuck here! Apparently roads into the town were blocked just after midday...no idea why, as no more snow has fallen as yet! Only guess is someone has taken a corner into the town a shade enthusiastically!!

Yes, Dick it bl**dy is! Any chance you all get down to Heathrow for a workparty to clear the runways so flights out start going tomorrow?
Good luck Roger, you'll need it!
Got to Faversham OK, main routes all clear but side roads 'interesting'.
Wintry view of the head of Oare Creek, just by the Hollowshore clubhouse. Note the ice-floes on the mud!

I'll just be glad to get to Heathrow. Quite prepared to abandon my car there until after Christmas. BBC World News is rubbish. Absolutely nothing about likelihood of movements tomorrow just 12 hours of repeated news that is Saturday. What a way to earn sailing vouchers!

All the photos are nice!

popped down to bridgemarsh earlier. Roads good. Only one lot of footprints on the pontoon before us (leading to a liveaboard, brrrr). Have now found out I have a dripping tap in the galley sink as there was an icicle hanging from it to a bowl two inches deep in frozen solid water... pics to follow .

These were taken locally on Saturday. There's been another 10 cm snow fall since.

I've never known the trams to stop running due to snow.

Now to see if the trains are running in the direction of work!

We often get ice across the marina at Foxs as the water is brackish (as it is also fed by Belstead Brook which is 'fresh' water).
However, yesterday and today, there was ice right across the Orwell, which is the first time I have seen that in the 12 years or so we have been based here.
Minus 10C in town this morning at 08:00.
I was warmer last Xmas in Iceland!!!
Hardy sailor of the year award goes to the chap in his dinghy 'rowing' from Orwell YC to his boat. He had to break the ice ahead of himself with an oar to make any progress.
