Are there any free weather fax apps/programs that are safe to download. I am only playing around at the moment so do not want to start paying out yet.

One of the best I have found is for Android, and is called HF Weather Fax for marine. Probably not quite free, but not far off.

Assuming you want one for decoding from a receiver.

Not sure if you are using a PC or a Phone. If it is a PC then the attached link is a free program ie no nags and no registration etc etc required.
It works on Windoze and Linux. It has been around for many years. Written by a cruising sailor

On the other hand if you have a Pactor Modem. The Sailmail program has a excellent HF Fax function.

+1 for Jwx, other PC programs: Seatty (30 day trial period), JVCOMM32 (it overwrites "free version please register" or something like that to charts), there was one "Mscan Meteo" but I cannot find ethe web site any more.
In Europe, I'd definitely recommend some sort of software allowing reception of DWD radiotelex/rtty bulletins as well, they are the poor man (reception only) grib :)

I have used SEATTY and found it excellent and used not too expensive. It can be left running and files the reports as they come in.

There is a NOAA. Directory of world wide weather fax stations

The black cat software has a built in link to that schedule file. It took me a while to realise I didn’t need search for it.
