Hi everyone,
as a newcomer to sailing just last year, I was wondering if anyone had any advise on launch trollys for wayfarer dinghys. I have been quoted £190 from the local indespension folk for a trolly which will take a boat up to 450lb. the one I got with the boat is probably as old as the boat itself (1966) and has finally collapsed, so any advise would be much appreciated. The indespension one looks ok and I am quite happy with the price, but if theres something more suitable then I would rather go for that, even if its a bit more money. any help would be much appreciated.
regards,
paul.

A lot use West Mersey trailers but they've recently changed the design of their mainstream trailer to allow them to be multi length, it involves bolting sections together and has added a significant weight to them - the trolleys are fine though!

Hayling Trailers are another popular supplier and we've recently had a custom one made for our club RIB - again no problems.

The trolley is usually the bit of kit that nobody thinks about, until they are trying to move the boat .... make it a good trolley ...

I agree - having hauled my Wayfarer (3057) up and out of the water many times I can vouch for the need for a trolley to be LIGHT and well balanced, and to have a well-designed method for getting it up on the road trailer. When my old steel one finally packs up, believe me, I am going to spend a very long and thorough time choosing a replacement, and will be interested to see which one you choose. Good luck!

Tim

PS. Have you tried on the Yahoo UKWA forum?

Paul,

Wayfarer trolley needs to support the boat in the right places. ie under the keel, with no weight on the bilge runners. I think it should be one made specially for the Wayfarer, or at least with the rollers and supports specially arranged.

Having used trolleys a little with RIB and Ali dinghys the biggest frustration is the inflatable tires that make the trolley float just when you want it to sink to get the boat on. Consider solid tires or water filled except this adds to the weight when out of the water. Most people around here put the trailer in the water and float the boat off and put up with corrosion of wheel bearings etc. The one exception seems to be Lasers for some reason. It all depends on your facilities for launching. Regards will

Your either using over light metal or you have a different water makeup!!
Although our galvanised steel trolley is swept aside by the tide it certainly doesn't float.
The easiest way I've found to hold the trolley in place whilst getting the boat on is to stand on it.

Would definitely get a quote from West Mersea trailers. Their trolleys are normally cheaper than indespension and just as well made.
