A group of about half a dozen Wayfarers came into Barry this week in company with a handfull of small cruising yachts from Lydney YC . They were returning from their summer cruise I heard Porlock and Minehead mentioned .

I take my hat off to them.Thats real seamanship .The channel must be a bigger place viewed from a sailing dinghy.

At CDYC they had members who crossed the English channel in wayfarers in a genuine F6, turned round and came back again in similar weather.

This sort of thing was not uncommon in the immediate post war years when people couldnt afford big boats. Now we can but for most of us our confidence in what these bigger boats will do has not increased that much.
