Wauquiez?

I went on one at SBS just before lock down , nothing wrong with it but for the price I would look for other choices -I guess the old ones as sold by Jonic might be completely different though

Which generation / model? Been through lots of different owners / iterations over the years.
That's at the heart of my concern. I don't know much about the company's history, but a 'know more than me person' suggested they use to be up there with HR, Najad, Hylas etc. until one of the AWB manufacturers bought them out. They look nice in the YW pictures. What are the good generations?

What size of boat and what is your budget and perhaps somebody may be able to help you. Range from decades old boats, for low money, to new build 58 footers at prices presumably in Eur millions.
The ownership by the “AWB manufacturer“ may have helped them modernise their supply chain and build practices, but a quick Google should show the dates of this, which is now a long time ago.
I was very interested in the Waquiez 40 stern cockpit boat, still being built up to around 5 years ago (and a well known meteorologist took one across the pond) - but I never managed to find one able to view. The 2000 ish 40 Pilot was also lovely, but a bit more quirky.

When they were independent they were certainly a top-class manufacturer.

The more recent boats do not have the same quality as those they were building 40 years ago but are still (IMHO) significantly better than the Beneteau/Bavarias of this world. I liked the look of the Centurion 40s they made during their Beneteau years but I am not sure they still make that.

FWIW they are now produced in an industrial estate in N France, looks like they have been there for over30 years so there is some continuity. Beneteau used to own the yard and they have just been acquired by this company:

Which tells you nothing really. They are always well spoken of but most owners have boats from way back and the present company has evolved, as mentioned above. This is an interesting owners type site, showing a lasting family interest in the company:

Wauquiez Forever

All of which you could have found out yourself, which is not a criticism, just a way of saying I have no particular knowledge except that I have always liked the look of them and the earlier boats were very well regarded.

Good questions. We have a 40ft 2003 Najad. We want something, same ilk, but bigger.... 45 to 50ft. Budget is not really an issue, but I don't like buying new. We're looking at HR, Najad, Hylas, Island Packet etc. We'd like centre cockpit, blue water hull (shape and strength). Just wondered if we should add W'z to the list and what generation.
