Look for the Eventide Owners Association who give advice on all Yachting Monthly designs. There has been a bit of a split in the organisation lately but you should be able to get help from either faction.

The RYA keep info on class associations too.

If I remember correctly, the Waterwitch was a design sponsored by Yachting Monthly. I think it was described more or less as a motorsailer. You´d probably get some information by contacting YM directy

One of my favourites ....... based on a barge boat design ....

Early ones had barge boards and then later they were scrapped and bilge plates fitted instead.

Built in ply, steel, carvel as yours ...... they have crossed oceans and looked after many happy yachties.

Contact the Eventide Association for real full info ..... they even give you a detailed hostiry of the design. I have it somewhere in my archives ... but would be too long to put here.

Any boat can cross oceans, its the skippers mind thats the critical bit, ive gone Harwich to Holland in Hunter 19s Coribees and Caprices yet seen some yachties in 30 footers frightened to go out of the sight of land, and if they do there got so many gagets it defeats the object. No im after the sailing performace of the boat, has any one out there owned one. its not very pretty to look at but seems a very practical layout as far as sail control and living space with room for a 6 foot tall people with boots on.
thanks in advance

Re: Eventide O.A.

As the result of an internal dispute there are now two Eventide owners associations
One is the Eventide Owners Group which can be found at:
http://www.eventideowners.org.uk.
One limits its membership to owners of M.G. designs the other is open to all.

26' waterline length so good speed reaching and running. The bilge keels seem to have a roll damping effect downwind. Shoal draft of 3' so don't expect any great windward performance - she will probably carry a fair weather helm. She has a long iron keel weighing just over a ton.

If yours is a Mk2 version then you have a true barge yacht drawing just 2' with lee boards raised. I've not sailed one but with external ballast of only just over half a ton I'd expect her to be a bit tender.

I sailed one about 10 years ago...

They're very capable boats, but you've got to enjoy them for their character, charm and steady temperament, rather than their performance.

A Snapdragon 23 (no racer, itself) sailed easily through our lee, which some would find a bit disconcerting.

(I've owned a gaff rigged MG designed Tidewater for some years now. Similar performance (or lack of) to the Waterwitch, but there other aesthetic pleasures of sailing to sheer speed).

Is she the Waterwitch in a mud berth at Walton?

Good luck, I hope you get heaps of happiness from your new boat.

My only experience was for about a couple of hours a year os ago. Firstly, I sail Jaguar 27 fin keel boat and after this I found the Waterwitch heavy, slow, undercanvassed BUT very stable and has already been said, many have crossed oceans and looked after their crew well.
Going from a smaller boat you will certainly find it very heavy, slow and ponderous. My opinion only of course - this may be exactly what you are looking for.

Re: Eventide O.A.

Almost right, The EOG welcomes all boaters the only restriction is that committee members should own a YM design.
