Just received a condition survey report on 8 year old Windy.
Most items as expected, except the moisture content in the GRP below the waterline. The reading is high, between 12-17 on a scale of 0-25.
The question is - is this an irreversible situation and if not whats the best way to tackle it.
Any information gratefully received

We had similar on a 10 year old boat. When was the reading taken and how long had the boat been out of the water? - if only a couple of hours it's likely the reading would be high we were told - depends on where the surveyor took the reading on the hull as well.

Speak to your surveyor for the real 'low-down'.

When was the boat last taken out? We were recommended to get her out every year for a couple of seasons and take it from there.

It is reversable. I had a high reading on my Bayliner, 18, the surveyor advised me to leave it out of the water for a couple of months which I do every winter. Took a reading after the boat had been out from November to March and it was right down to 6. It depends if the boat has spent its entire life water bound with only a couple of days each year on land to antifoul etc.
Once the readings are low, this could take a couple of winters on the hard depending on the thickness of the hull, you can epoxy treat it to prevent any further ingress. As long as there is no sign of the dreaded osmosis you should have no props.
Cheers now.

Syd :)
