Taking the boat from Watchet up to Bristol for the first time this week.

Going into Cardiff for an overnight stay. Have only stayed at the pay and display for a rally previously. Where' the best place for an overnight mooring (at reasonable prices!!!)

Cardiff to Bristol at 8 knots, how long should I allow to get to Bristol and what is the best time to arrive at the lock?

Thanks for any advice.

I would stay at cyc or cbyc and allow about 5.5 hrs to get to bristol at hw (allowing for lock out of cardiff etc.)

2nd vote for Cardiff Yacht Club, welcome us mobos and very friendly wirh great showers!
The speed limit in the Avon is 9kts but at 5 kts it'll take you about 50 mins from Avonmouth to the lock.. Last lock in at Bristol is 15 mins before HW and this is the best one to take as you obviously don't have to "lock up" so far against the muddy walls!
Call Bristol VTS on CH12 as you enter the river and tell them you are inbound for the city docks, they will phone the dock master and tell him you are en-route.
Call the dock master on CH14 as you approach the Clifton suspension bridge and he will advise you.
We shall be on board in Bristol on Saturday, give me a call on CH16 if you need any info of fancy a beer!
Feel free to PM me if nes!
Cheers

Thanks all, Didn't get to Bristol!

Phone call while in Cardiff cancelled the trip.

CYC said I would be OK for one night despite being over 40 feet, but once there the visitors pontoon had two yachts on it and little room to manoeuvre, so decided to play it safe and go to the P&D. Does anyone ever pay there as every boat that arrived asked me the gate number?

Nice meal in Valentino's so not a totally wasted journey.

Ignored by three snotty raggie tw*ts who wouldn't wave - just the moronic dead stare in return! obviously not forum members.

I don't think they enforce the p&d anymore.
