Crew of 4 experienced sailors (incl the pope and a Tesco's trolley collector) on 3 to 4 day trip. What watch system would you recommend? When should we do mass or should we dump it to lighten the boat?

I wouldn't've thought you needed a watch system - just get the pope to have a word with 'im upstairs and you can safely go below and enjoy your favourite tipples for the whole trip - afterall ... 'im upstairs will be watching over the pope - stands to reason!

Don't forget to turn off the DSC VHF though - there's likely to be a plethora of Mayday and PanPan calls from the carnage you leave in your wake!

Leaving aside The Pope and the Tesco's trolley for the moment.

Exp1 2000-2400
Exp2 0000-0400
Exp1 0400-0800

Exp 1 & 2 on and off duing the day as agreed with each other

Pope - brought as substitute whenever crossing, miracles (such as calming storm and see below) and Hail Mary's required.

Tesco's trolley - loaded at beginning and end of trip, used as drogue if going gets rough.

Hope this helps.

Pronunciation: 'ple-th&-r&
Function: noun
Etymology: Medieval Latin, from Greek plEthOra, literally, fullness, from plEthein to be full -- more at FULL
1 : a bodily condition characterized by an excess of blood and marked by turgescence and a florid complexion
2 : EXCESS, SUPERFLUITY; also : PROFUSION, ABUNDANCE
- ple·tho·ric /pl&-'thor-ik, ple-, -'thär-; 'ple-th&-rik/ adjective

I meant it as "Abundance" ... but I quite like the bodily condition characterized by an excess of blood ..... quite acurate I believe! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yes I have .. and its a very good watch unlike my Seiko which I got for my 21st and is currently languishing broken in the garage

For your 21st!!! that long ago? Didn't do too bad then did it!!!
I've had a sieko for 30 years, been everywhere, diving, mechaniching it's been battered to death, but is still going strong. Also have a rolex, it's a worse timekeeper than me!!

Not sure the replies so far have been all that helpful.
Have been on one of these trips, and exhaustion sets in at the end of the second night. As one experienced skipper to another, what you need is a hammock up on deck. In this way, you can appear to be in control while sleeping through the whole shebang.
And don't forget to take euros with you, including some coins for the pool table.

day 8 on /off
night 4 on/off
departing crew to make coffee prior to waking relief - 20-30 handover window, -- logreading, course data, possibilities.
