washing machines

>>But it's a useful piece of kit and can double as extra storage, a butter maker or a salad spinner!!

Your comment re extra storage is particularly valid! That's the perfect place to place the dirty washing as it becomes available, and as the top is airtight, it keeps the cabins fresh too! We don't have an aft cabin so our Wonderwash lived on the 'double' 1/4 berth though with it's stand removed.
Interesting that you had a problem with the lid. I have to say we never experienced the slightest problem with leaks once we'd learned just the right amount of tension (dependant on water temperature we found) to tighten the lid to, and certainly saw no instance of cracking. I suspect someone got a bit enthusiastic when using the water too hot, as the pressure inside builds up amazingly.

Thanks for the details of your 240v machine. Far to big for our little boat though!

5 euro for a wash in Almerima which might not sound much but with the kids we seem to produce a lot of washing so it soon adds up also the cost in time and effort of having to lug evrything back and forth to the laundrette is a pain!

OK, it was only four months, and only two of us, Canadian Eastern Seaboard. I used laundrettes - all over the place, and in the fishermen's facilities. Where there wasn't one, well, it was actually rather good sitting in the sun on a wharf with a couple of buckets - and I was the day's amusement/entertainment! Water was never a problem - it rains a lot and often I found the ultra large diameter hosepipes on the wharves were routinely left running. There was always enough sunshine to dry the clothes, though what Jack thought of a row of my (colourful) knickers pinned round the bows of his boat is another matter... a new signal?

And never forget - put your dirty clothes into a bag. When you run out of clothes, put your hand into the bag and pull out whatever you need - and it REALLY is amazing how clean it is!!

had a zanussi studio automatic washing machine on board...very reliable....the heating element broke once and was quite easy to fix...

Costs a lot more than the big machines because of its compact size....about £400....if i had the room i would put a full size machine in....its about the same size as a tumble dryer...they both looked cute on my boat
