Looking at the photo it is obvious that previous boats had created a considerable amount of wash that was still bouncing from bank to bank for some time afterwards,however think the poor old Sealine which is not apparently going that fast is getting a lot of stick for disruption he was not wholly responsible for ?????

It is often the way on the river. A boat in front causes wash, by the time it hits the moored boats they look up, see you, and shout.
 
The wash in rr123's photo was created by the Monarch (thanks Shades..) and then added to by the following two vessels, the Sealine being the last.

By the time they got to Windsor, all three boats came through on the same locking and passed me in convoy, so I would argue that he too, is going too fast.

Had a few come past today, all behaving very sensibly. :)

When they came past me, yes, they were going too fast.

The Sealine was in convoy with the other two vessels and all three were going too fast.

They were going too fast because the wash they caused was way beyond anything that could be considered acceptable (yes, subjective, I know...).

My RIB was in the water behind my boat (we had been using it) and if anyone had been in it at the time there was a significant potential for injury. Further, as originally posted, for the first time I've seen, my entire bathing platform was swamped. No, I don't care that it got wet, but it serves to illustrate the significance of the wash created - it was possibly the worst I've seen in six years on my mooring.

Despite all the arguments each way, if a forumite has clearly stated there was way too much wash, why would people who were not there wish to debate the point :confused:

This is turning into the 'Windsor rowing boat' thread all over again: Several people saw it, yet other none related parties chose to argue the point.

Pretty poor show chaps....:(

To be fair the photograph that has since been removed clearly showed that there was not a great deal of wash from the boat in question.

Maybe there had been but at the point the picture was taken there wasnt.

The poster then got stroppy when this was pointed out to them and then the teddy and the dummy went straight out of the pram. :D

So why post it?

It didnt show anything much other than a bit of chop from the previous boat. I find that to be more of a poor show. Posting a picture and then expecting it not to be commented on :(
 
It was the best he could get at the time.

I have been there and sympathise...you just can't get the camera out in time!!

The point is, why do so many people who were not there want to argue the point?

i do not always agree with you John, but I think you are spot on with this comment.

I have kept quiet on this post but did see the same three boats come through Staines. I think rr_123 has been misunderstood. The lead 37 kicked out a mess of water and i was scared/pleased to see the flood prevention works I had done to Amy J prevented her from either being swamped or having her davits torn out. if I had not done what I had moments before they came by then i reckon i would have had a loose boat.

Do hope the problems these boats caused were relayed to the skippers of the boats concerned.Otherwise they may be totally unaware of the chaos they left behind and repeat the episode at some point.
 
Perhaps the answer is to expect to have wash whilst aboard your boat then people won't be upset when they experience waves?

I am sick of some of the rowers on the tideway who in central London scream at you for creating a wash. Bottom line their boats are unsuitable not a question of wash.

Trouble is mate, if you're not aboard, then this magnitude of wash can cause damage, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to come back to your boat and find it damaged, while an ill mannered Skipper howls past would you?

And as much as I appreciate the Rower thing, and hate the selfish gits, there is Wash, and there is WASH!!

If they scream at a little wash, I shrug and sail on. :o
