Nice shot of yer shoes at the end. No risk of collision as far as I could tell. I would think a hovercraft was restricted in its ability to manouvre tho' as they do not turn well.
Port to Port in a narrow channel, good visability, whats the problem? Perhaps if you have to ask a question like this on a public forum then, respectfully, you need to study the coll regs a bit more, noise or no noise.
Maybe I've missed somthing?
Come on down to Portsmuff and play - quite normal to have a hovercraft on one side, fast cat on the other, Brittany Ferries bearing down on you, tripper boat up your stern and jet skis buzzing round, not to mention a few score yotties and MoBos.
Time to take a video you have not!
You beat me to it, with the hovercraft crossing and the Brittany Ferry passing the IOW ferry in the entrance and a strong tide running that video seems quite tame /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
In addition to fast cats hovercrafts and ferrys and strong tides you forgot to mention the excessive wash from mobos, fishing boats and commercial vessels and the numpty harbour patrol boats who seemingly spend more time obstructing than assisting with the flow of vessels through the small boat channel.....oh yes and sunsnail boats. Col regs ??????? No chance to video to busy holding on for dear life. Ahhh the joys of the Solent !

An air cushion vehicle is classed as a vessel with restricted maneuverability

Under which Rule?
[/ QUOTE ]
definition of RAM is a vessel 'from the nature of her work' .....unable to keep out of the way...
Cannot see how a hovercraft fits into that.
hovercraft are extremely manoeuvrable. as well as generally being fast enough to treat us as fixed obstructions.
Quite so, Cornishman. In the Colregs a number of vessels are specifically mentioned as being 'restricted in their ability to manoeuvre' by virtue of the work they do, but ' cushion vehicles are not listed. The preamble to the rule (rule 3g) says the list is not exclusive and other vessels may be restricted but the implication appears to be that it is the job not the craft that is the key.
In practical terms a hovercraft has obvious handling limitations and should be given a wide berth.
A vessel restricted in ability to manoeuvre should, by day, be exhibiting the appropriate "shapes" namely two balls with a diamond between them in a vertical line.
Don't see any such shapes in the video. Therefore non expecting to be treated as restricted in ability to manoeuvre.
