According to Will Prowse, there is a serious safety concern with some Battleborn batteries (specifically the 100 Ahr model) involving the positive terminal becoming loose and overheating in some instances.
Sadly, it's much easier to get insurance on some cheap ready made battery. Or not so cheap, in the case of Battleborn. Can you believe how bad that battery is? Battlefront market themselves as a premium US brand. Unbelievable poor design and construction. Those batteries cost a fortune. It's makes the argument for building your own DIY batteries even stronger
When you see 'professional ' expensive batteries like this, so poorly constructed then listen to the text that Battleborn has issued. OMG!
And BB responds...
I now only fit batteries that I have made and these "top of the range" manufacturers keep proving my point for me
I use only the finest artisanal hand crafted batteries, don't you know. When you see 'professional ' expensive batteries like this, so poorly constructed then listen to the text that Battleborn has issued. OMG!
I think those of us that built DIY batteries need to change our description. It makes out batteries sound inferior to mass produced batteries that the likes of Battlebordn are producing. Maybe we should say we build custom batteries not DIY. Basically, that's what they are. We can choose the best cells and the best bms. Configure the cells in a layout to suit our battery box. Custom from now on not DIY![]()
That response is crazy.

I've invented a mechanism to protect people from looking down the barrel of loaded guns. What it does is fire a hard metal projectile through their eye at around 3000 fps ensuring that they don't ever accidentally shoot themselves... again. Though that's kind of an unfair parody as almost everyone not born in Florida knows not to do something so silly but many people who have contacted BB will not have the expertise to realise that they are being fed grade A bull. That response is crazy.
It sounds like Battleborn are claiming that their self-destructing terminal design will act like some kind of fuse.
Which is a strange design decision to make, when perfectly good lithium rested fuses already exist.
Must admit I have always felt a bit wary of the super expensive big name battery providers.. They get tie ins with YouTube channels and because they are expensive, people assume that they are good quality. But there's really not much to a battery, and the cells and BMS are generally being churned out by the same factories in China, regardless of whatever label ends up on the box (admittedly Battleborn are a bit different, using cylindrical cells). If you use grade A matched cells, a good quality BMS, and make good quality connections, then you've really done everything possible to build a good battery.
