Ok so I currently have a mastercraft for wakeboarding but wanting another boat that I can take on the sea with the wife and kids.

Must have somewhere for us to sleep (Me and the wife don't mind sleeping in a camping cover)
Must have toilet

What is the VERY least I ma likely to get this for. I've been looking on ebay and some come up for around 5k.

You can get allot of boat for 5k at moment but could mean allot of work. You can also get some well put together boats..

Depends on your type of sailing.

I would say you would not go far wrong with Trident 24, I used to own one so I am biased.

Sorry should have said I'm lookkng for mobo. I have no idea how a sail boat works or what to do. Seems to much oike hard work to me lol

If you are looking to take the family in the ocean then for comfort there is no substitute for size both length and mass. All the rest like bunks and loos can be fitted easily.
So for a mobo it is hull and engine you want. I would not consider anything but GRP hull which may limit what size you can get for the money. You can get a wooden hull a lot bigger for the money but then yu might end up witha lot of troubles. Regarding the engine well who knows you might end up with a lot of troubles too but then you have to chance it.
of course a bigger boat is going to cost a lot more to keep ie for mooring repainting etc.
As an exanmple our club was given a boat owned by an elderly member who go too old to use it and keep it. He thought it might make a good rescue/start boat. 36ft plywood hull with Perkins V8 diesel (and 2 spare engines). The boat had bunks for 6 people in the bow and a lovely double stateroom separate bathroom with shower and more bunk room in the wheelhouse. The boat was slipped and inspected. Our shipwright reckoned the hull was on its last legs. Rivets loose and dry rot in the cabin top. The vee drive was leeaking oil. We decided to sell it and it went for about 5k squid. I think the new owner got a bargain but on the other hand he is due for a lot of remedial work or a short life expectancy for what was a fine boat. Thats what can happen if you buy a bargain.
good luck olewill
