Just a warning to those anchoring at stone point -- there is a very large piece of waterlogged tree in the middle of the anchorage. Today winching in the anchor we coud not get the anchor in. Pulled the bows down significantly under the load. Using the motor and 12tons of Smack we mnaged to get free of the obstruction. Winding in the chain we pulled up a waterlogged large chunk of tree-the chain was wrapped round a 4" side branch attached to the main trunk. Before I coud get a line around it it dropped to the bottom. Position just opposite the green can marking the Dardanelles.

Many thanks for that very useful information!

Do you think that you might have found a fossilised tree ?
There are such things in the mud on the seaward side.
I would have expected a 'wood' tree to be much lighter and carry on the significant current.
