I have just taken over a boat with a Wallas paraffin heater. The ventilation fan works but it will not fire up. Yes! Paraffin in the tank. But I dont know anything about these units, so I dont know what to look for. No instruction or manual on board. The boat is berth in the wilds of Norway, so it as to be do it yourself job. As anyone a manual (copy) they can E mail or Fax me or is it something more simple? Any advise please

These are normally very reliable units, i have a 1800 on my boat. You start them on low heat, and then switch to high heat, mine has 2 LED's to indicate what is going on. But it will not go into high mode untill heating LED is on, this is red I think. One thing that did stuff me tho, I thought it had a major fault, just like you do, was just me being a wally as usual. I forgot to open the cap on the exhaust deck fitting. It has a balanced flue type system. Didnt discover this little bugger untill I had stripped and removed it from my boat and cleaned it all out,(Twat or what). Anyway. if it fails to start after say 5 mins you have to wait about half an hour for it to reset again. Listen to the pump also, it should click slow untill you get heat and then will go twice as fast on high heat.
Cant remember much else

Re: Wallas paraffin heater - Update!

Thanks for your help - todate
I think my unit is bigger then your 1800 but the panel you mention is the same. I found the cover bell 'thingy', Today I spotted a another bell 'thingy' on a boat near mine in the marina with the skipper on board. Between his English and my Norwegian he pointed me in the direction of filter pad or pads in the housing he also gave me an address of a small shop he say can service the unit, and its just by my office. So Ill check it out tomorrow. Watch this space!
