Waldringfield Tragedy (Not one of my silly jokes)

Unfortunately this is a repeated disaster especially when the animal survives
It is however a case where need to help overcomes self

Any update of if the person involved was local, a sailor or visitor to Waldringfield as zero reports on the news or in the paper or online.

I believe that a dog was involved in the tragedy with yacht vs dredger off Harwich a few years ago.
If you're thinking of the fatal collision with the yacht Orca, there were two dogs aboard, one of which drowned. Neither were implicated in the events leading to the collision, and no-one was at risk rescuing the one that was saved (it was the dredger's work boat that rescued both the Orca's skipper and the dog).

I was curious and checked the MAIB report.

It was an elderly gent, local resident and regular swimmer. It’s now thought he went for a swim whilst his dog was with him but got into difficulties or suffered some form of collapse.
Still very sad but possibly not quite the tragedy it could have been.
I found it especially shocking when I first heard about it as only about a week previously, completely by chance, I saw someone overbalance from his dinghy & fall into the water by the pontoon. I raised the alarm and got help to recover him.
That person was totally inebriated, had no idea where he was (no life jacket, of course) & might well have drowned too had I not fancied a cup of tea, stood up & looked out of the window at that precise moment.

Well done for raising the alarm and getting help
