Fridge works fine on mains power and when on 12v when engine is running, but "cycles" on and off if on batteries alone. It has only just started this malfunction. Batteries are fully charged. Has any one else had this problem? Anything else I should look for apart from loose connections? Thanks in advance.

the Waeco will shut down if the voltage drops below 10-11v. It does so to protect the batteries and will then switch back on when the voltage goes above 12-13v. The initial load is quite high.

You most probably have a loose connection. As well as checking the fridge connections, check the main 12v supply to your distribution panel.

I had this until I was convinced from people on here to up the feed cables from the battery. Although Waeco fridges are the bogs dollocks in my opinion, they need to be plumbed in well.

As suggested, as this has just started to be a problem look for a corroded connection, or even toward possible replacement of your batteries, they do not last forever, especially with the abuse they get on small boats.

To confirm it is a power wiring problem run some heavy wires directly from the battery terminals to the fridge. Don't forget both +ve and -ve wires. If it works OK then you will know it is a wiring problem.
Of course it could be the battery is too old and this is the first sign. Check the actual voltagee at the terminals. olewilll

I had this problem recently. Fridge motor kept trying to start then after a beep, would stop. This kept on happening without the compressor running. Fault was the black box (electronic unit) which protects the batteries by not running if charge is low. This happened even on shorepower so batterey charge was not the problem. Was told these units no longer available but finally tracked one down for £100. Eventually (our fridge was 11 years old) we decided to replace the complete motor. If anyone needs an electronic unit for a Danfoss (waeco) fridge mine is for sale unused and boxed!
PM me if interested.
