VP D2-55 fuel bleed screw stripped?

I've replaced the CAV filter this year, however, when I change it next year, I am changing it for one of these: Primer Top with Small Screw on Filter | Primers | Primers and Delphi fuel filter HDF496 | Filter fuel | Fuel filter Delphi. It wouldn't be much fun having to change that CAV filter at sea - easy on the service, getting pitched around at sea, no thanks.
I have just bought these.

The inlet and outlet threads are M14 which are the same as my CAV filter. You will have to check your thread sizes as I believe that some CAV housings have a UNF thread which may mean changing your hose tails/banjo union.

Now you've done the job and squared up the mating surface it should be fine.
Copper washers are reuseable, you just need to heat them up red hot on the gas stove and drop them into cold water to anneal them.

Just an update on this one, with the help of the first mate, this is all back together, snugged up on dowty washer and looking great... no one will ever know that bleed screw is quite so pissed... :ROFLMAO:

bled and started? good!
Will it start after a day? then it's fine!

If anyone notices, you'll simply (and v.seriously) explain that it was done on purpose to give better access to the spanner when bleeding the system after a filter change in order to reduce spillage
Obvs its important to keep a straight face when you're talking carp, but you know that...

I had so many problems with the crappy Yanmar inbuilt filter, and only dowty washers were the solution to constant bleeding...

I really don't understand why a proper bleed screw is not fitted to diesel fuel systems.

This allows a tube to be attached to stop diesel being squirted all over the place and like bleeding brakes allow the bobbles in the oil to be seem easer.

This type also allows the fitting to be easy replaced if over tightened.

Both MTU and MAN use them. And actually some VP engines - D4 —— d16 all do. Much cleaner with a tube and a bottle!
