One sailing friend said that by monitoring the oil pressure you can get an early warning before an old engine runs into oil pressure problems so therefore am I working on this task.

I bought parts on internet to "upgrade" my monitoring capabilities on a Volvo Penta D2-55 version A (yacht from 2002, 2 300 hours on the panel).
Now when I am going to remove the old oil pressure alarm sensor and install the new alarm & monitor sensor am I a bit confused.
The image on the right side below is the old oil alarm sensor that I thought should be replaced.

Looking at the parts in the delivered kit

I am starting to believe that the new alarm & monitoring sensor should be installed on the top, at the red questionsmark on the diagram from the manual.

Am I on the right track?

If so will I install the new alarm & monitoring sensor and use it for some time the coming season.
When I am confident with the new function will I remove the old sensor because a sailing friend with an old Penta turbo engine lost oil pressure due to a rosty sensor (his engine might be 30 years old).

There appears to be two systems............ depending on exact model ???

The one you illustrate retains the alarm / warning light switch in its position on the side of the engine and requires a sensor for the gauge, PN 366906, to be fitted, using the adapter, at the top end of the rocker oil feed pipe.

The other uses a combined alarm/ warning light switch and gauge sensor, PN 3587359, (#27 below} fitted on the side of the engine ( at the bottom end of the rocker oil feed pipe ..... ??)

If you have the sensor and adapter you illustrate it fits in the position indicated with your question mark and shown in your final photograph. You retain the alarm switch in the position you label "OLD"

Here is the link for D2-55 A & B versions
Volvo Penta 37 Cables and Fuses | Electrical System D2-55, D2-55B | Volvopentashop.com

The headline indicate that I am looking on parts for my early A model.

The specification says 3 gaskets #28 but the picture only shows 2, I suspect that there should be a third gasket on #29
The pressure sensor I bought wasn't VP original, it is Bosch no 360 081 030 052

I didn't thought so much when I procured the parts but now when preparing for the execution of the upgrade am I confused (my assumptions of the location on the engine doesn't match what I now read....)

When digesting more pages on VP web site did I found the simpler solution with PN 3587359 for the C model.

VP seem to have different part numbers for pressure sensors depending on which D2-55 versions you have.
Not sure if the thread for the different sensors are the same or if it is lack of space on the side of the engine.

Anyhow, big thank to @VicS with the clarification.

@scottie regarding the wiring do I now realize that VP use 2 terminals for the original pressure alarm sensor (NO), white/light blue for alarm signal and black for ground.
Bosch and Wema do not have ground terminals on there sensors what I can see.

The Bosch sensor do have 2 terminals, one for alarm and one for "pressure data", no terminal for earth.
The Bosch price is roughly half of what Penta sensor cost.

So ground via the engine block is not a problem for the alarm function (NO),
but how sensitive could it be for pressure measurement?
Guess it works fine for car engines so I hope I can drop that issue for now :)
