Did some work on the engine today.
Vp 2003 in a 1988 westerly seahawk.

I tried to fix the leaking water pump by rebedding the impeller cover but it didn't work.
It looks like it's leaking from the shaft so a rebuild is now on the job list.

The closest match, visually, I can find is this

Water Pump Overhaul kit (ANC2496) | Trickett Marine

I can't find the right part on Parts4engines. It previews in Google but shows as a missing page.
The fuel lift pump I ordered was a straight swop and looked good quality.
I'll call em next week.

I hate disturbing those push fit connections but I don't think I have any option.
Amybe I'll get a fresh set of washers.
Also, a quick read suggests getting bearings off/on the shaft can be tricky.
Do I need a puller?
Any other issues?

Thanks

I replaced the seals on my volvo 2001 with no issues that I remember. It was several years ago and it leaked in a similar manner to yours by the sound of it. If the bearings need replacing you may need a press to push the new ones on.

You can replace the seal without removing the pump. As long as the shaft isn't badly marked, but you won't know this until the old seal is removed. The inner seal is for the oil and rarely leaks as it's oil lubricated. With the impeller removed unscrew the screw holding the impeller 'shoe', then lift out the thin base plate behind. Prise out the old seal and fit a new one, carefully tapping it equally into place.

Worth putting Keypart of Watford in your mobile - they know about these things and have the parts, usually.

In this case a seal on the shaft may be all you need. May be necessary to destroy the old seal to remove it, but of course do this without scoring the other surfaces.

If the face plate is leaking, the internal scoring can be eased down with fine emery. As these pumps age they lose a little water transference this way but that shouldn't cause heating problems.

Parts4engines had already come up trumps with a fuel lift pump so I pinged them an e mail.
They called me to talk through the issue then searched out the required part even though the computer said out of stock. Fantastic. Going forward they will be my first port of call.

I think if the pump has never been dismantled previously you will require a full rebuild kit including the shaft it is probably worn where the seals bear.I think the rubber push fit seals will be fine. When you remove the shaft from the housing measure the distance from the end of the shaft, drive end, to the face of the first bearing or from the roll pin to the pump body and on reassembly make sure these distances are the same, the position of the bearings on the shaft determine the position of the shaft in the pump body and therefore the position of the impeller within the pump. I think youll find it easier pressing the bearings on as opposed to knocking the shaft through the bearings or bearings on the shaft, and fit from the drive end of the shaft to prevent any damage to the shaft on assembly

I fitted a rebuild kit in the winter on my 2002, no puller or specialist tools - just a hammer and sockets of various sizes to persuade the bearings etc off and on the shaft. no fuss, no drama, no pullers. It was one of those jobs I was dreading, given the cost of a new pump, but was pleasantly surprised by its undifficultyness

No leaks either
