Interesting, i would have thought if it cracked the pump would stop working.Yes mine cracked round the top and filled the bilge :-( the cap as shown was about £60 from VP.
If mounted below water line it won't need a pump to flood the bilge.Interesting, i would have thought if it cracked the pump would stop working.
No my strainer is well above the water line and mounted above the impeller pump, however that continues to work, and thereby forcing water out of the top of the strainer if/when the cap breaks, hence why the bilge fills. I was at Chichester Marina when I noticed mine, the VP dealer said it was very common and not to over tighten the cap.Interesting, i would have thought if it cracked the pump would stop working.
and with a 'minor' leak likely to go all over the alternatorNo my strainer is well above the water line and mounted above the impeller pump, however that continues to work, and thereby forcing water out of the top of the strainer if/when the cap breaks, hence why the bilge fills. On some engines the strainer is after and above the raw water pump.Interesting, i would have thought if it cracked the pump would stop working.
Yes its not a good design.and with a 'minor' leak likely to go all over the alternator![]()
fortunately my leak was directed away from the alternator due to where the crack was.and with a 'minor' leak likely to go all over the alternator![]()
Mine has the strainer above but before the pump. I often used meet people with the same boat or very similar and they'd complain about the top cracking. The clear plastic lid seems to tighten and become difficult to remove even when you think very little force used to tighten. Just seems to become stiffer with time.On some engines the strainer is after and above the raw water pump.
