We have a small water leak from the sea pump , I manage to buy two new seals but unable to buy the rubber ring in the middle , before I strip it down and replace the seals , can anyone tell me if the ring dose ? Do it need to be replace to seal the water or is it there for another reasons , if it also need to be replace then i wont bother strip it until I can get a new one from some where .

Thanks guys

Ibelieve that the ring which sits on the shaft between the two static seals acts as a "thrower". Probably to preclude the chance of any cross contamination, oil to water or waterto oil should both static seals fail.

Hi mike
Thanks for that , looks like I going to have to send away to the UK for one , can't get one in France so far tho Volvo in port Napoleon said he have another go next week , at less it just a drip now and then . Christine said hi , email us when you find the time and let us know how it going .

If it is the same as the 2030 pump, there is no need to strip it. Just take out the impeller, then carefully remove the water seal. Replace and it should last another few hundred hours. Google how to remove the seal. Oil seal hardly ever needs replacing.

Here a update .

I manage to get the third seal to day , and after I removed the pump I decided I wouldn't try and replace them my self but take them to marina service , it a good job I did , you your thinking of replacing the seals on a D2 40 DON'T unless you have the right tools for the job , even the engineer shop at a hell of a problem to first remove the gear on the back and then to get the c clip out was just almost impossible, I don't un stand French but I think her was cursing the day he took the job on , at the end he charge me 45 euros , it was worth ever penny or should I say euro .
