Volvo temps

Varies from engine to engine, but anything over 92c for an extended period (say 5 mins?) I'd say is indicative of a problem. Anything over 100c for even a second IS a problem

Our D6 370s ran at 78... But that was after heat exchangers were stripped and cleaned. Prior to that north of 85. From memory, we were advised that temps don't creep up 78, 79, 80 etc, it is set to jump from 78 to something like 85... From what I learned, D6 heat exchangers need tlc every 6 years...

As above, I wouldn't like to see above 90 as a general thing, that would be an indicator to me of the need to get it checked/cleaned.

We were running a bit warm on the very few times we have been out over Covid so last visit I Rydlymed the port engine heat exch and oil cooler for about 4 hrs. 1st time I've used Rydlyme but got to say, brilliant stuff. S/B engine getting same treatment this weekend.PICT0017.JPGPICT0019.JPG

Before and afters, not necessarily the same bit but gives an idea of the effectiveness of the flush.

d you connect the pump please and where did you get the hose connections.

I think I've some pics on my phone of the system I made (I'll post them up later) but essentially its :
A 25 ltr bucket with 10 ltrs of Rydlyme and 10 ltrs of water.
A bilge pump running off the 12v Genny battery in the engineroom, this pump sits in the bottom of the bucket.
A pipe from the pump into a brass fitting that screws into the forward anode plug thread in the heat exchanger.
A pipe that returns from a brass fitting ( back into the bucket) that screws into the aft most Oil cooler anode plug.

I bought the brass fittings from Volvo Penta at Darthaven

I'll get the pics up later.

Once I'd got it ready I was amazed how easy the whole thing was.

OK not the most brilliant pics but these show the return pipe plumbed into the oil cooler, of course if you back flush its becomes the feed not the return-, the bucket with bilge pump in it, and a quick video of it all working showing the flow rate out of the cooler.
I will get more & better pics this weekend as you'll see the fitting into the heat exchange on the S/b engine .20220508_130650.png
