I have recently purchased a boat with twin TAMD41B engines and MS4 gearboxes and have noticed comments about gearbox anodes. I believe each engine cooling system has two anodes, but so far have not been able to identify where they are, and the owner's manual makes no mention of them. Does anybody know where they are and are there likely to be any issues arising when changing them? I have seen a part on an anode seller's website allegedly for these engines which looks like a brass bung with a male thread, also another one with a female thread which looks as if it would fit the threaded anodes I have found on the boat, so I am further puzzled as to which parts will be required. Finally, does anybody know if a workshop manual for this engine is available as a download: I have seen one for similar engines, but not for mine.

If it has reverse gear oil coolers…they are on the aft facing side of them. Square looking plug head will the visible. Called pencil anodes.

1 x pencil anode on the heat exchanger
Might be one on the oil cooler ????
There are no pencil anodes on my Gearbox(es)
The pencil anodes cost around £5.00 or so from ebay or most of the aftermarket anode companies. ASAP etc

Be very careful when removing, as corrosion can weaken the fitting.
The small brass fitting( available seperately) that holds the anode in the heat exchanger will start to corrode once the zinc anode has totally disappeared, you buy a replacement for around £15.00.

MS4B Gearbox.
