I know spares for boat engines are more expensive than car parts..but I was quite suprised how much cheaper volvo car spares are in Sweden than in Uk even though vat is higher..maybe its the same for volvo boat bits If you give me one item for an example( I will need code/part no) I will ask the price here at the local chandlers.as a matter of inerestif you wish..

Actually Bill when I needed some new injectors for a 15 year old
penta diesel cheapest place was that outfit in Watford -they
were cheaper than the guys working at Volvo Penta (5 minutes from me)
could purchase them for in Sweden .
I agree about the car parts though ......

The cheapest place I have found for VP spares is MMS Direct - 01628 471 368 and ask for Laurence. I have just bought a raw water pump for a AQ225D, I checked around and everywhere wanted over £300 inc VAT. Including postage I got it from MMS for £252 (still a lot for what it is, but as johnson pumps who make them were "I'm afraid we are not allowed to sell this to you direct Sir" would not supply me via Aquafax I had no option). I have compared with Keyparts and have always found them (MMS) to be cheaper and whats more all genuine Volvo "bits"
MMS have a web site www.mmsdirect.co.uk

I was passing Newark Marina recently, so thought it a good idea to get some Anodes for my Volvo 280 legs. Was charged £43 each for ring anodes ( magnesium). Hows that for some profiteering . Would have gone elsewhere but, time is not on my side right now.

Volspec in essex charged me £435 for a starter, I was well pissed when i found out i could buy the same unit at a motor factors for £75. the only difference between the two is that the "marine" starter had a lenght of heat shrink round the soliniod for spark protection. volvo starter is not volvo at all. its a bosch unit used on nearly every peugeot, renault, and volvo car. Now thats a rip-off

Did you speak to Volspec, I'd have taken it back, added a bit of grease and stuffed it up their collective arses! then bought the car one!

Too late, did speak to volspec. said they would take it back only if wrong one supplied or it had'nt been used. Plus it was all done in a bit of a hurry. the starter arrived the day we were of on our hols with the boat, then fitted when we got there. Still i'll know next time!!
