Volvo seawater filters

Hi, I have a pair of volvo KAMD44P EDC and seem to have problems getting the seawater filter lids to seal well.

On previous boats I found that when I removed the screw top the inner lid would be held down by the vacuum caused by the seal as soon as I lifted one edge the seal would break and the filter empty back through the seacocks .

On this boat I cannot seem to get the same seal and on occasions the pumps are not drawing water through properly and I have remove and reseat the lids.

Any thoughts from the assembled wisdom?

I smear some vaseline around the inner lid.

Not having an issue myself, but a mate used Jet Blue Plus plumbing paste with good results.

Remains soft.

if the black plastic screw on ones Volvo changed then for better ones ( at the customers cost I assume )

Agree if they are the black lid type although I modified mine to a clear lid and now works fine.

Despite my fitting a new sealing gasket mine still failed to allow a proper flow and caused over-heating. I lost patience and replaced it with a Vetus one. Simple and effective.

If you have high water pressure on the raw water side above 3 psi your coolers or exhaust elbow could be causing this .

Thanks. I am getting the coolant system stripped down and de scaled as part of a 1000hr major service

What did you replace with-was it the Vetus lid - if so where did you buy from/part number - as I would prefer to be able to see if water is pumping/debris etc
