I am having the saildrive seal replaced on my Volvo D1-30 after eight years. I had a call from the mechanic this afternoon to say the the lower ring that fits between the lower leg and the seal is badly corroded, in fact, he had never seen one like this before. He does not want to put it back in this condition, and is unsure whether it is possible to get this part from Volvo, and it was too late in the day to find out; does anybody know the answer? otherwise he thinks I may be in for a new leg!

Many Thanks

Rick

If you look on the Volvo webshop, hosted by any Volvo marine dealer (such as RK Marine in Swanwick) you can find your saildrive assembly and see the parts.

Thank you.

Having looked at the RK Marine site, it appears to be an Intermediate Plate and is £374!

How do you tell a 120 from a 130 saildrive?

You dont say exactly which sail drive you have but you will find the official parts lists which give the availability of parts and their list price at

Volvo Penta Drives & Transmissions - MarinePartsEurope.com

If the anode is one piece it is 120, 130 uses a split anode, though I think some split anodes for 120 are now available from others.

Pass, but I bet if you email RK they can tell you if there's a serial number plate or similar. If it's a D2 engine then I think a 130 is likely but don't hold me to that.

Or you can try your builder/class association.

If the plate has corroded and the leg itself is not then that might indicate a lack of electrical continuity from the plate to the anode. The thru bolts may be insulated by the paper gasket/adhesive. I have noticed this plate corrosion on other sail drives but possibly not as severe as described above. It may be useful on reassembly to ensure that no adhesive attaches to the bolts.
