Hi all,

I hope you are all doing well given the current circumstances.

Does anyone have any experience servicing the Penta TAMD-41p?
Is it a case of fuel filter, oil filter, oil change for a service or is there anything else that is normally done?
Also, does anyone have a servicing manual? I am quite competent with engines on a car/truck but never serviced a marine engine before.

Cheers!

Raw water impeller - remove for inspection and replace if any sign of cracking at the roots of the vanes.
Belts and Air filter - your choice but inspect at least .

Its a nice an easy engine to service the only down side is you have to lay over the top of the engine on my 805 and i also reccommend that you take the inspection hatch off under the step to gain better access to the belts and water pump.
When i change the engine fuel filter it does not like bleeding through with the hand pump but yours may be ok.
There is a service manual kicking around on the forum which is split in to 5 parts i think so just search in the forum search bar.
i get my parts from Key parts as they are very helpfull.

If you are going to the trouble of "inspecting" that impellor and its more than a season old, fit a new one.
There is nothing else on the boat which is so cheap to buy so simple to change, that can bring your boat so suddenly and expensively to a worrying halt miles from anywhere.

If it’s not a familiar boat to you previously.

oil filter
Oil change
Fuel filter (primary and secondary)
air filter
Crankcase breather filter
Pencil anode on reverse gear oil cooler
Check engine mounts torque
Gear oil suck out and change
Raw water strainer clean
Fresh water level check and AF manometer check
Every 500 hours I’m sure is an injector overhaul or test at least.
sound advice would be to check the belts and change water pump impeller if it’s easily accessed too.
If fussy, could take the turbo piping off and check the compressor wheel for signs of oil and play in bearing.

Valves need adjusting every 200 hrs. Very easy 20 min job if you have done this before.

I'm not sure that is so ? Do you find they need adjusting so often?

The much later development of the same basic engine to 24 valves = the kad44 and kad300 does required regular attention to valve adjustment but not the relatively simple two valves per cylinder models. Or so I have read somewhere - probably on this forum.

Spannerman is right that the manual quotes 200 hours but, yes, in reality that is too frequent. I have clocked up over 700 hours and now check the clearances every 300 hours. At the next check I may extend that again.
