I need a new sea water strainer housing for a VP d4 260 engine, I had a look on marine parts Europe website and it seems like Volvo only supply the entire filter IE housing, lid, filter element seals etc for a silly price (450 euro)

Is anyone aware of any other suppliers that may be able to supply just the bit I need at a more acceptable price?

I doubt there is one,but thought it's worth an ask on here.

Thanks, I had a look on their website but they don't list it. Do you think it's worth emailing them and asking?

Julians,

We just had one go and you have to buy the whole thing. Top tip make sure you are 100% about which one you need. I ordered one for a VP D-6 330 A-F thinking it would cover my 330A-B. I was wrong they are different and it was only when I collected it that I saw it was wrong. Luckily the dealer had the one I wanted in stock so I could still leave with the right part less €450. That was with a 15% discount.

The good news is it took 10 mins to fit.

Thanks, yep I noticed that the later versions are different

I'm not a Volvo fan but is the strainer the plastic one that has become distorted? If so, soaking it in hot water will return it to it's original shape.

It's actually cracked,no idea how, water sprays out of the crack in the side of it. Managed to patch it up and get home with duct tape over the crack on the inside.

How much is the upgrade version with the bolt down top, if not too much more ?

The one that has failed already has the bolt down top, it's not the lid that failed it's the bucket itself has cracked.

The updated version of the bucket used with newer revision engines is designed to work with a different pump that positions the strainer before the pump,in the version I need the strainer is positioned after the pump.

Regardless, I think you will just need to get a new one. Keyparts have been good to me over the year. Where are you located as you quoted €.

Boat is in Mallorca, but I'm going back to UK tonight. Have been quoted ~£360 from a UK supplier, will probably order from them and take it out to boat next time I go, unless I can find a better option.
