both car and boat turbocharged engines produce no boost whatsoever reving them in neutral, no load == no pressure.Be like revving a turbo charged car in neutral. You’ll never get the same boost pressure as you’d get in gear and accelerating
If you look at the switch you will see that the off position is at the vertical, the stop position mark is to the right of it! so my description is correct. Perry has pmd me he is turning it to the stop mark.Stop saying RIGHT! He turns the key fully anticlockwise to stop the engine
The prob with that theory is that the Merc pump works ok with the same infrastructure, the trick is to find out what is different between the two pumps. The issue is, lack of fuel, simplistically speaking, if it was air ie turbo or supercharger it would be black smoke everywhere and as I have said several times the fuel supply and infrastructure has been demonstrated to be good by the fact that the Merc pump works ok. So, again, what is, inside the pump, causing the lack of fuel? I know that several members on here are bein* dismissive but this has been going on for months. A fresh look with a new slant could perhaps solve it!I think you’d be best testing this on load when you can.
that surging sounds like supercharger surge of old. Which should not really happen on a common rail diesel. Might suggest you have inconsistent boost pressure from it.
But thinking a little more about it, under normal circumstances and the boat in the water under load higher up the rpm, your turbo will be well in play and not the charger. But off load out the water and in neutral, you’ll never get the true normal resulting boost pressure from the turbo. Be like revving a turbo charged car in neutral. You’ll never get the same boost pressure as you’d get in gear and accelerating
Why can’t he leave the merc pump on , might be silly question. The prob with that theory is that the Merc pump works ok with the same infrastructure, the trick is to find out what is different between the two pumps. the off mark on the switch is with the key vertical, the stop mark to the right of the off mark, so turn to the mark to the RIGHTHe sure does , standard set up anti clockwise to stop.
This is the exercpt from the manual for your future reference. As I said,
the off mark on the switch is with the key vertical, the stop mark to the right of the off mark, so turn to the mark to the RIGHT
Exactly my point. Although they will create a little boost. Just not much at all.both car and boat turbocharged engines produce no boost whatsoever reving them in neutral, no load == no pressure.
Doesn’t seem like a lack of fuel to me. Unless it’s momentarily. The prob with that theory is that the Merc pump works ok with the same infrastructure, the trick is to find out what is different between the two pumps. NicePerry I see your in NZ I might be over this year if the Silver Fern rally runs.

There's no point in testing it under load when the thing hardly starts, idles or revs in neutral.Doesn’t seem like a lack of fuel to me. Unless it’s momentarily.
The last video I saw had a little looking like black smoke.
But I still think we could all be guessing until it’s on load properly and tested.
It does make you wonder if there is a business in buying complete new engines and breaking them immediately for spares ! Injection kit is expensive
One year in the Med we anchored near 3 recent wrecks .second hand engine? they do pop up from time to time.
Brand new Bosch pumpPerry, is it a brand new Volvo Pump at NZ$12,000 or just a similar Bosch pump?
