Volvo Penta engine numbers

Any VP engine owners out there (mine's a VP2003T) who could help identify where the VP engine number is usually located? I can find no reference of my engine number on paperwork, or physically attached to the engine.

And yes I have tried interesting VP in my problem, but I think you have to possess an ouija board before you can make contact with them.

Reason for asking is that, checking into Turkey the engine number was demanded for the Turkish transit log (the official said that it's a 'new requirement') and he got quite mournful when I couldn't provide it.

Perhaps a previous owner was one of the people that used to bring the plate in to make sure they got the parts for the right engine when I was working.
If you can't find one on the engine there may be one on the transmission that can be traced to an engine .
I think the later engines have a location shown in the owners book.
