In this cold weather my engine has become a little harder to start. Normally I leave the throttle in neutral, heat the glow plugs for 5 seconds and it starts within 3 seconds from pushing the starter. In this cold I heat the glow plugs for up to 10 seconds, push the starter, I hear the engine firing but then it dies when I release the starter. It keeps running only if I increase the throttle. After 30 seconds to one minute I throttle back to neutral and it keeps running fine from there. To me it sounds like some fuel starvation, but only at cold start.

The engine has just been serviced. There is no coloured smoke of any kind coming from the exhaust. A part from the hardish start (I hear there are worst cases) everything looks fine. However this is the first time I own an engine that requires some throttle to start when cold. Is this normal or do I have to be concerned that this is a symptom of something to come?

I have the same engine. The manual says that it should be started with half throttle!
