Can anybody help with the following query we've received from a reader? It's a bit before my time.

"I wonder if you can help. In December I bought a Fairline Holiday MkII. It has a Volvo Penta AQ130 engine and a 270 outdrive. In the paperwork I received with it there was only one sheet about the engine but there was nothing about what the normal cruising or maximum rpm should be. All I can tell you is that the maximum speed of the boat is stated as 20 knots.
Also can I use normal unleaded petrol as when it was built it would have been running on leaded petrol? It has a 50 gallon tank but there is no info on what sort off range it can do. I have tried all sort off websites with no luck. Can you help or advise me?"

Hugo,

Aq 130c/270. W.O.T 5100 rpm, cruising rpm 4600. Around 22 knots. Fuel consumption approx at 1600 rpm/4.5 knots about 1/2 gall hr. at 4500 rpm approx 3.5 gall/hr. Boat is a Draco 2000 daycab deep vee hull 1.25 tonnes approx displacement swinging 14 x 15 prop. Max speed 29.8 knots (GPS) with clean bottom and lightly loaded etc....Will run unleaded as valve seats are stellite and rotate to evev wear. Mine was rebuilt in 2006 and has run OK ever since .

Hi Hugo

I had a pair of these in a Coronet a few years ago.

Watch out for the raw water pump rear seals, the pump bolts straight to the front timing chain cover when the seal fails it pumps raw water straight in to the oil ways in the engine

Been there had to re build the engine

A B20 car engine as I remember with a few marine cooling parts added

I have a Draco 24 with a 350 Magnum 260hp. At 3300rpm I get 24 kts(gps) and 34lph; and at 4500rpm it does 36knts and 70lph! I have repowered over 25 Dracos of all variants and know they are very solid boats. Draco in their heyday were the largest producer of grp boats in Europe, and its interesting that the little blue speedboat that Sunseeker have at boatshows produced when they were Poole Powerboats looks like a dead ringer for an early Draco boat which of course Poole Powerboats were a distributor many years ago, could mighty Sunseeker have Draco DNA, I often wonder everytime I see that blue speedboat.
