Alternator wiring on a Volvo D2-75, is this really the correct way to attach this wire, by zip tie, to the alternator casing?

Its a poor photo, but is this an extra wire that has been connected into the alternator brush gear for an auxiliary alternator controller?
Better than leaving it wagging but there are better and tidier ways.

What wire is it? The picture is too small to identify it.

The danger is that it might chafe and short to the alternator case, but maybe not a problem is it is in fact a ground connection but still not good

A better solution might be a P clip if one can be attached to the alternator

Perhaps enclose the wire in a sheath to protect it.

Thanks for the feedback. It is the black wire with the label on. See bigger photo.

I am fairly sure that this a temperature sender. Yes, fixing it to the case is good but the cable tie isn’t the best way. Some fit it on the negative post, but better to mount on an existing bolt - either by the diode pack or field coils.

It’s purpose is to turn down a smart alternator controller thats boosting the alternator, looks like sterling, before the alternator fries. It may not work so effectively where it is.
