Volvo Penta 2040 don't charge and no warning lights

Problem solved!! Or at least now lights are working and alternator is charging. Connection of black wire coming from regulator was a bit lose. I make connection better and after that all seems to work.

Who knows what is the purpose of that black wire and does it make sense that it was the problem?

Thanks for the feed back

If one of the regulator connections is loose and not making contact its not going to work. It's probably negative regulation in which case the field current flows through that wire. If that comes adrift there will be no field current and therefore no generation.

The regulator senses the volts across itself and controls the field current flowing through the rotor winding via the slip rings and brushes to maintain this at the correct value
