Does anyone know whether a Volvo md7 with saildrive can be converted to use with a gearbox and propshaft? I'm guessing the bellhousings are the same on both types, with boltholes in the same positions, and all I'd need to do is unbolt saildrive and stick a gearbox in it's place.
Or is this too simplistic?

yes if you had a gearbox and fitting from another md7 if not then not worth the bother

I have just done the reverse. The bell housing on the back of the engine is different for gearbox and saildrive so you have to change both. You will also need a new gasket between engine & bell housing to stop oil leaks. The bolt holes are the same and it is a very simple job.
As a result of the job I have done I have a gearbox and bell housing spare. If you are interested in these please PM me.
