Volvo KAD42

Deos anyone know of any problems with this engine, there are rumors of disintigration at 800-1000 hrs. Volvo say sold thousands with no known problems.
Apprently unbelievable expense if it happens.

Do a search to pull out all info I have replied about these engines times many,not going on about them but........ IMHO they are not too clever£££££££££££.

In essence, no main problems. But some annoyances are,

Coolant spillage - needs the new large expansion bottle, and knowing that the min and max marks are for when the engine is hot, not cold.

Compressor screech - needs new model idler pulley and belt to stop the slippage.

Heat exchangers may at your hours need de-scaling and whilst about it, do the injector nozzles.

Take a look at the Volvo Penta Forums section on www.boatdiesel.com There has been a very long thread recently about the differences between Kad 42 and 43 engenes. Also related are some horror stories about the Kad 42.
